Candidates for Group D Level 1 Posts are required to go through written exam which is of objective type. There is negative marking of 1/3 for each wrong answer in Railway for all posts. Those who clear written exam, have to pass physical efficiency test. All stages qualified candidates are placed in level 1 pay scale of Railway.
Railway Group D Salary 2024 (Level 1 Posts) Pay Scale
Some of the allowances given to Railway D group employees is dearness allowance, house rent allowance etc. DA rate for central govt employees is 50%. Also HRA for these railway employees is 27% for Class X city, 18% for Class Y city and 9% for class Z employee (on basic pay). These allowances are calculated on the basic pay and added to it making total salary.
So the approx. salary they will be awarded will be close to the one given below.

Job Profile / Description of Group D Employees in Indian Railway:
Assistant Pointsman:
Job includes handling switches or railroad points.
Lever control to direct trains to the required tracks & directions, connections of coaches.
Porter / Hamal /Sweeper:
helping railway passengers at stations
handling loading, unloading & distribution of passengers’ luggage, maintaining general cleanliness etc.
Gateman:
opening and closing gates at level crossing, opening & closing of gates.
Helper (Electrical, Mechanical, S & T):
They have to perform various tasks depending upon the department they are posted. In S&T department, they are given the charge of maintenance of signal.
If one gets posted in Electrical department, they are given the charge of various electrical equipment.
Hospital Attendant:
Work related to medical facilities, indoor job, suitable for women.
